NHL: New Jersey Devils snatch Ilya Kovalchuk

Russian NHL star Ilya Kovalchuk has ended his long association with Atlanta and signed up with the New-Jersey Devils. He was going to become a free agent in July but had not reached agreement on a new contract with the Thrashers. Atlanta get Johnny Oduya, Niclas Bergfors, Patrice Cormier and New Jersey's first-round pick in next year's entry draft in exchange for Kovalchuk.
