From 1967 the opening credits of one of my favorites, "To Sir With Love" starring one of the best actors ever Sidney Poitier as teacher Mark Thackeray. This clip also features the song during the student outing to the museum and as it was performed in the movie by Lulu (with The Mindbenders). The song was written by Don Black and Mark London. Lulu's single was released in 1967 and reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, remaining in the top position for five weeks and earning the number one position for the entire year. "To Sir With Love" also peaked at number nine on the R&B charts. The London bus that appears in several sequences at the start of the film, LLU 829, and in some later sequences, still survives today as a preserved vintage vehicle, and can be seen at the East Anglia Transport Museum, Carlton Colville, Lowestoft, England.

  • I love this movie! They sure don't make them like this anymore, and you just can't go wrong with Sidney Poitier : )

  • @Stash351 So true. He is one of the greatest actors of all time.

  • I just watched the video again just today.. and fourty years later it is still such a powerful and moving movie.. I remember seeing this in the theatre and i already was madly in love with London..having not been there yet it was a dream from childhood days.. / My grandmother was from London and with her british accent she used to tell me the stories of London and those were the days shed say.. Well i did get to go three times since this amazing movie that still cuts right through to my soul.

  • @MermaidPrincess9 This is one of those few movies that you can watch over and over again. I love 60's London. So glad you finally made it to London. This has been a dream of mine since childhood too but still haven't made it yet. I kept hoping :)

  • It was 1967 and I was finishing High School, went to see it with my first girlfriend on a hot summer day. Then I thought the world was at my feet. Forty four years have gone by and I have learnt many things the hard way and twisted, burned and turned with each of life's endless desolations. Looking back at the clip is like living a dream, I wish I can relive those days so long ago - walk out of that theater and start all over again.

  • @slheartless I know exactly what you mean. I wish I had not made so many bad choices also but I am still alive and trying to get it right.
