Everything you hear has been done on the JX-3P except the drums and multi-tracked in Logic

Check out some of those Vangelis like sounds ;-)

  • The JX-3P was the first synth I ever bought (can you believe I paid $K for it used in 1983?) still have it my collection. You can get that classic warm Roland bass sound, but on recordings the bass is very hollow and thin sounding. I struggle with that - even had to trash a mix because of that (enhancers/exciters didn't help). Do you have a way of dealing with that?

  • @stuthomson Personally I just use another synth for bass and the fact that you can't stick it in some kind of mono mode is a bit annoying for bass sounds with a long amp release as the notes clash. One way of using it's bass but making it phater is sampling it...got a few JX basses in my Akai but I layer them with my Juno's bass

  • @vinyljunkie07 there is an upgrade that puts it in true monomode

  • @0e0 Yep, the Kiwi upgrade adds loads of functionality but I sold this synth now.

  • Im actually looking into some nice old school/analog/pad sounds. This is pretty cool.

  • The 3P is lovely at strings but I hardly ever use it now days, it's not my fave sytnth I have or lust over at all...Ghetto synth hahah I got it just cos it was a cheap dco analogue on my door step lol It's pretty beat up so not worth selling cos I would get bugger all for it. It's alright at typical 80's shit but man I like and don't like it haha the Alpha Juno is so much nicer imo..it's not a real synth but suits my music more ;-) also a Juno-60 mann I would rather have one of those or JP6/4

  • where'd part 1 go? i remember seeing another JX3P/MPC demo you did and liking it a lot, and haven't been able to find it since. :/

  • @vinyljunkie07 just got one from a friend to fix..it's really fun and playable. I really enjoy it when synths are "playable".

  • my first synth too! got it in 1983, and i still own it....a few keys don"t work now though! my god, things have come a long way nowadays! now i use a virus ti and and nord wave fro my poly sounds, and a moog phatty for the leads! nice post-thanx

  • Excellent demo sounds. I also have JX3P + PG200. I got it for history as Roland's first DCO with MIDI. JX3P's strings, mid & high range balance well with my Jupiter 4 that i use for low range.

  • i own a jx3p + pg200. i built an organix kit in it, works great, love the sound

i would like a 2nd one with the kiwi mod, you will have a whole new and much more improved jx3p

  • @stuthomson Close down that filter, don't use the chorus or resonance. Bypass the highpass filter, too. It may sound weird, but I use the JX only for bass. Its not a bitey bass. If only the envelopes were quicker.

Other than that, I don't use eq or anything else. Many examples are in my uploads, i think I put in the descriptions when i used it for bass. Its on most of the newer vids.

  • @vinyljunkie07 i used to have a juno 60 and have a jx-3p now, and i find it to be much more interesting and rewarding to program. at some point it definitely becomes a matter of preference, i suppose.

thanks for your vids, every one i've watched has been great.
