  • Watch fox news for the truth. Like did you know over 400,000 Americans loose their jobs every week.

  • This is not why nightly network news is dying-people don't even notice this 30 seconds wasted on transition words. The reason is cable news networks like CNN, FNC and MSNBC and the internet. Unfortunately, people are not going to sit down for 30 minutes to hear about news they read about on the internet at work of a tip from a web surfing coworker.

  • "Drivetime 76" has a very good point. Look at a transcript of the CBS Evening News from the 1970s and '80s and note how concise and "tightly edited" it was -- it was the "newscast of record" and words were not wasted. Today in network newscasts there are all too many pointless "live shots" with the obligatory "thank yous" and "crosstalk" that would be unnecessary with taped reports. And, yes, "Nightly News" did "waste" one minute of so of airtime in the late '80s with theme music at the end.

  • The reason why they say all those extra things is to be POLITE to their viewers. And one more thing. In case there is a dumbass watching (In this case they've UPLOADED it) They give descriptions of their jobs in case someone wants to know what they do as their job. So do us all a favor and don't give these people SHIT just because they give an extra 30 seconds to be courteous.

  • Oh boo hoo, I've heard people complain of media bias, infotainment, and style over substance, but a few courteous filler words should be the last of anyone's concern. For comparison, Walter Cronkite, a father figure to most modern anchors, intentionally SLOWED DOWN his words to ensure intelligibility, and NBC Nightly News used to air over ONE FULL MINUTE of their theme song at the end of their broadcast in the late '80s/early '90s; that has since been cut down to about 10 seconds.

  • 30 seconds of a 30 minute broadcast!! Oh no!!!
