The Archies - Get On The Line (1969 Music Video)

The song "Get On The Line" was included on The Archies' third album, "Jingle Jangle." This music segment was originally created for use in the 1969 Filmation TV Series "The Archie Comedy Hour". It was also played during the end credits of the 1969 CBS prime-time special "Archie and His New Pals". It was last broadcast in 1973 during an episode of "Everything's Archie", a CBS-TV Saturday morning show which reran segments from the original "The Archie Comedy Hour" in a 30 minute format. The song was also used for the opening and closing credits of "The Archie / Sabrina Show", which was basically the same thing as the "Everything's Archie" show, except that it was used for broadcasts outside of the United States.

Like all the rest of the song segments from "The Archie Comedy Hour", (with the exception of "Sugar, Sugar"), this segment, in it's original form, has become lost. The song segments from "The Archie Comedy Hour" are no longer in the Filmation archives (now owned by Entertainment Rights), and nobody seems to know what happened to them, or when they became lost. They were not included in The Archies TV syndication package from 1976, so their disappearance may have happened before then.

This version of the "Get On The Line" song segment was taken from the closing credits of the "Archie and His New Pals" TV Special. The end credits start to roll about halfway through the song. This seems to be the only version left in existence where the whole song is played from start to finish.

It is interesting to note that this version of "Get On The Line" is missing some of Toni Wine's background vocals as compared to the version that appears on the "Jingle Jangle" album. It is also slightly shorter.

The "Archie and His New Pals" TV special is included as a BONUS in the "Archie's Funhouse" DVD box set from Genius Products and Entertainment Rights.

@MichaelCapelle Don Bluth worked on the 1969 CBS-TV special "Archie and His New Pals" that this music segment was shown on during the closing credits. This music segment was created for "The Archie Comedy Hour" and not part of the special, even though it was shown during the closing credits... that is why the song segment shows characters such as Ophelia, Hot Dog Jr. and Chili Dog, who were not in the special.

Brings back great memories of growing up in the late 60's - early 70's era.

The kid that lived across the street had the "Jingle Jangle" LP that contained this song. The record was in bad shape, so he had to tape pennies to the tonearm of his 'suitcase' type record player so it wouldn't skip!

I'm from Australia and it's great to hear this with lyrics. I'm not exactly sure which Archie show we got over here, but I'm used to hearing the slightly shorter instrumental version during the end credits.. It's a great piece of music ( if a little repeditive without words :P). As a kid I made a "holding a tape recorder up to the tv speaker" cassette recording once that I still have somewhere..
