Sheldon "Shelley" Berman (born February 3, 1925) is an American comedian, actor, writer, teacher, lecturer, and poet.

Berman was born in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Irene (née Marks) and Nathan Berman.

Berman started as a straight actor, receiving his training at the Goodman Theater in Chicago, honing his acting skills in stock companies in and around Chicago and New York. In the mid-1950s, he became a member of Chicago's Compass Players, which later evolved into The Second City. While performing improvised sketches with Compass, Berman began developing solo pieces, often employing an imaginary telephone to take the place of an onstage partner.(WIKIPEDIA)

  • This was a favourite 78rpm record of mine back in the 1950's and was played often.

It's great to hear him again after all those years.

  • @cms0354 Well hello to you to! Glad we both like Shelley Berman. You know he's still living---in his 80's now. Its just so strange to me that anyone living back in 1958 is still alive now! LOL! It was the Inside Shelley Berman albumn that I memorized completely. What's amazing to me is that I still remember most of it today after all these years. I wish I could find all the clips from that albumn here. Maybe I'll see If its available on Amazon. Have a great day!

  • @napachild I'm actually a girl, so hello sister! ;-)

  • @cms0354 "My tongue is asleep and my teeth itch. Oh God, God, God, God, God. Come on God, will ya? Where where is my alka seltzer. Don't be mean alka seltzer, dissolve! Oh to hell with it, I'll drink the pieces. Oh, God, God. Hail Moscow! Hello, Dave?" And continue on from there!

  • @cms0354 Loved the part about the flame of the cigarette falling between his legs and he's feeling around for it and all of a sudden a bus comes and everyone is looking in your car! Its especially funny to me since I drove big truck for 22 years and saw all sorts of stuff on the road. I won't go into details but you can imagine!

  • @cms0354 Well hello brother (never had a brother before--just a sister (ugh)). In my case, it was my mother and father that got this albumn. I guess to play at parties they hosted every once in a while--especially New Years. And I used to listen to it when they weren't around and memorized it. I did the "woman hanging on a ledge" for a talent show one time. I wish I could have done others, but could only find this one with no cuss words. More.....

  • @napachild We must have lived in the same house! Wait, are you my sister? Anyway, my upbringing included the memorization of this album too. I finally found it on CD format and listen to it every once in a while ;-)

  • We had this album when I was a kid and my Mom, sister and I would listen to it all the time. Became a cult classic at our house. This is one of my favorite routines - That and the airline pilot, and when he calls his sister's house. Classic Berman!!

  • You really mean to tell me somebody disliked this?!!! Must be the woman hanging from the ledge!
