Ariadne auf Naxos, Op. 60 (Libretto by Hugo von Hofmannstal)

excerpt: "Gibt es kein Hinüber?" (Is there then no passing?)

Lisa Della Casa - Ariadne

Nada Puttar - Dryade
Leonore Kirschstein - Echo

Conductor - Alberto Erede

Berliner Philharmoniker, 1959.

paintings: "Ariadne on Naxos" by Evelyn De Morgen (1855-1919); John Vanderlyn 1776-1852; "Bacchus & Ariane" by Delacroix; "Bacchus and Ariadne", Sebastiano Ricci ((1659-1734).

Ariadne:
"Gibt es kein Hinüber?
Sind wir schon da?
Wie konnt' es geschehen!
Sind wir schon drüber?
Auch meine Höhle, schön!
Gewölbt über ein seliges Lager,
einen heiligen Altar!
Wie wunder wunderbar verwandelst!

Bacchus:
"Du! Alles du!
Ich bin ein anderer, als ich war!
Der Sinn des Gottes
ist wach in mir,
dein herrlich Wesen
ganz zu fassen!
Die Glieder reg' ich in göttlicher Lust!
Die Höhle da!
Lass mich, die Höhle deiner Schmerzen
zieh' ich zur tiefsten Lust
um dich und mich!

  • @LeChevalierDuFeu No, a selection available from Decca. Conductor is Erede. Complete recording with Della Casa and Böhm (DG) in which she is not half as great as here, though.

  • Wonderful - thank you! Rudolf Schock is one of the greatest in the role of Bacchus.

  • is this from a complete recording ?

  • @merlesaskia

    on the contrary ;)

  • @tightlygagged

Now that I re-listen to this.. one year later I have to confess I made a mistake in my first description, this is not a non-first class voice, this is a dreadful voice :)))))

  • It's interesting to compare the many different recordings of this magnificent music; Della Casa ranks high with me, as well as Janowitz.

  • -Great aria

    -Beautiful woman

    -Great artist

-A drooling MORON maligning one of the great voices of her period. (LohengrinT--YouTube's major problem)

  • -Ingenious composition (one of Strauss' best)

    -Extremely beautiful woman Della Casa

    -Great phrasing

-Not a first class voice though (Della Casa's major problem)
