Meet Brandon! Brandon is a 57 cm NAO humanoid robot developed by Alderbaran Robotics, a French company specializing in developing/marketing humanoid robots. Its key components consist of a body made up of electric motors and actuators, a series of sensors that include cameras, microphones, sonar distance sensors, tactile and pressure sensors, as well as emitters, receivers, and an inertial board. Brandon is equipped with various devices such as a voice synthesizer, LED lights, and speakers that allow it to express itself.
NAO robots like Brandon have enabled FLATE at HCC-Brandon to give students a first-hand view of robotics at work. It has given students an opportunity to discover topics such as locomotion, grasping, audio and video signal treatment, and much more. Brandon has also served as a valuable tool for educators to develop interdisciplinary projects that integrate team work, project management, problem-solving, and communication skills within a stimulating setting. To date, Brandon has been on 15 student presentations that include FLATE's robotics camps, the Made in Florida industry tours, and student demos at HCC-Brandon.
