Drexel Shaft Implosion official video 11/15/09

On Sunday November 15, 2009, at 7:50am, the legacy known to every Drexel student as the Drexel Shaft was imploded.

We were graciously granted access by SEPTA Transit Police, (it is good to have name dropping connections), to view the collapse from the roof deck of the Circ Center Parking garage. I dont think anyone else in Philadelphia had a better non obstructed view than we did. We were parked right next to KYW and CBS camera crews. This was clearly front row seating of the first degree.

Immediately after the implosion, the sun came out in a weird way, and the Cira Center cast a memorial like eerie shadow of a shaft across the lot. It was a truly moving and memorial in a dynamite, demolition blasting kind of way

Despite your title, the shaft doesn't "implode." It falls over. If if had imploded, its parts would have moved towards each other. There is a slight bit of implosion at the start, just after the explosives go off and the shaft sinks a bit, but then it falls over. That is not an implosion. If it imploded, the mass of the shaft would be sitting in a pile above its starting point.
