Joy Division was an English rock band that formed in 1976 in Salford, Greater Manchester. With their dark, cavernous sound and use of synthesizers and electronics, they pioneered the post-punk sound of the late 1970s and the early 1980s. The band dissolved in May 1980 after the suicide of its lead singer, Ian Curtis. The remaining members reformed as New Order and went on to achieve much critical and commercial success.

@MrSlashpig you're right, bono is a total cunt. however, JD was quite popular with the goth culture of the 80's. see also: the cure, siouxsie/banshees, the cramps, and many others. not goth bands their entire careers and never self-labeled goths, though they contributed quite a bit to the movement with their darker tunes. plus, all that so-called goth music fuckin' rocks! that's all i care about, 'cause fuck labels
