This tutorial addresses a common problem in mixing: how do you fit the vocals into an instrumental track without clipping or reducing the volume of the instrumentals?

Please buy the program if you can afford it. It's reasonably priced and constantly updated. I don't officially endorse them, but I enjoy using the software, and in my opinion, the makers deserve support.

  • I'm an obvious nube here i guess. instead of increasing the voice. why can't you decrease the music. or would either one have a generally balance effect.

    thanks for everything.

  • @lonewolfsinger2k

Instrumental tracks are usually released with the same loudness as the original, just minus the vocals. Reducing the volume of the instrumental track would result in a mix that's quieter than the original.

  • Ahh~! This tutorial is so helpful! I understand the process of mixing much much better now. :'D

But I have a question...I followed everything in the tutorial and my mix sounds much better, but my Utau voice is still a bit drowned out by the karaoke. "OTL (maybe I just suck at mixing) I was wondering if changing the master limiter threshold number would make any difference? o.o

  • @zomgitsnoterin

Most instrumentals these days tend to be excessively loud to begin with, so there isn't much room to fit in vocals.

The master limiter threshold shouldn't be touched.

You could put an equalizer on the vocals and kick up the higher frequencies a bit. How that will affect your mix depends on the frequency distribution of your vocals. Usually, a bump at around 8kHz would help make your vocals a bit more intelligible. A small bump at 1-3kHz would help with presence too. Experiment!
