Gilbertville - review from A Music website -
"Gilbertville" is the album that takes Gilbert O'Sullivan into his sixth decade of releasing music, as well as being his Hypertension debut. Whilst it's true that O'Sullivan's heyday was in 70s 80s you don't get the longevity that he's enjoyed without being really talented. There's something about cheese that can be quite compelling, but in order for that to happen it's got to be well written and arranged, songs have to be able to stand on their own and from that point of view, he's still got it. This is an album that's high on country, blues, MOR and ultimately fun.
Here`s a review of Gilbert`s recent concert in Liverpool - LIVERPOOL ECHO Entertainment News Review: Waterford-born singer-songwriter Gilbert O'Sullivan at the Philharmonic Hall.
Peter Grant Liverpool Echo
Mar 2 2011
THE Waterford-born singer-songwriter has a golden track record in the music business.
It's been two years since he last played Liverpool and he said with a wide smile: "Being back here is like a real home from home"
His place in pop culture is well secured here and abroad.
He packed so many hits into the first half you wondered how he was going to fit in the rest of his back catalogue.
Opening with Thunder and Lightning -- from his debut album Gilbert O'Sullivan Himself -- he provided a master class in musicianship for two and a half hours.
With a back-screen projection showing young Gilbert in cloth cap and basin haircut, the sold out audience loved his new material as much as the classics.
Can I Leave The Rest Up To You from his Nashville-inspired new album Gilbertville sits comfortably with the legendary Nothing Rhymed and We Will.
A reggae version of Why Oh Why? Also shows he is keen to experiment.
This week 10CC played the Phil and did a greatest hits showcase giving the fans what they wanted. That's what Gilbert does, too, but with much more intimacy.
A five-piece faultless band, with two backing singers and a string quartet, shone throughout . One song about bullying called Don't Let It get To You was written for one of his two daughters.
It illustrates his skill in communicating via lyrics and melodies whether it's Beatle-esque love songs such as What's In a Kiss and Out of The Question to serious rockers notably the new song I Wanna Know.
Just when you think there is nothing more out of the creative cupboard up pops another pop up classic from a man celebrating 40 years at the top of his profession.
The Allergy Song and Where Would We Be Without Tea prove he has lost none of the sparkle and sense of humour that have endeared him to millions.
Not many stars can get a standing ovation halfway through a show and that's before Alone Again (Naturally), Matrimony and Get Down.
He got full marks last time he appeared.
Nothing's changed -- everything rhymed.
10 / 10 Waterford Crystal

@tearmann Yes the entire song is now out but Gilbert has requested , understandably , that it isn`t available in full at the moment on youtube or similar sites. If people can get the song un-officially then it could damage the sales of the single - and likewise with the album . That`s why there`s only excerpts of the new songs at the moment . You need to get the album !

Like someone else has pointed out it would be a great shame if this amazing song faded away into obscurity. It really deserves to be a hit in the USA, maybe more so in September 2011 when Americans commemorate 10 years since the tragedy of that awful day. The message in the song is quite simple; "All they wanted to say was i love you".

@soundsaboutright345 Here`s what I`d like to happen. They should do another big charity concert in America like the ` Concert for New York ` they did in 2001. This would be a ` 10 Years After ` concert and feature all the music giants - Springsteen , McCartney , Billy Joel , Elton etc. Gilbert should be invited along to perform ALL THEY WANTED TO SAY . It would stop the show . Everyone knows Gilbert for `Alone Again ` and would love to see him again . It would re-launch his career in the US .
