I got bored. When I get bored, I seek out the intrinsic trippyness of things.

I'd experimented with this sort of thing before, using an old camcorder and a 13" TV. It was moderately interesting. In the last couple of weeks, I happened to think of those trials and decided that I could have a bit more fun with a 100" screen.

The composite output of a rather basic Sony Handycam was jacked into the projector. The camera was aimed at the screen, zoomed such that the screen did not completely fill the field of view. This gave me a slightly eccentric pulsing blue blob in the center of the screen. The color output of the camera was inverted, so as to make the black darkness of the room white. This gave excellent results, projecting a series of red [as the CCD has a natural blue bias which has been inverted] frames into infinity. If zoomed in sufficiently, the feedback reached a saturation point and the image became a rather boring white/red strobe.

Until it was give external input. The echoes tend to drift to the right because the camera is slightly off to the left of the projector's axis. The purple color of the video is caused by the NightShot infrared feature of the camera, which imparts a green tint.
