got an african butterfly fish this morning, its very lively. i found a medium sized spider and put it in and it was gone in a second! i'd love to know if its male or female so i can name it, any way to tell?

It says in my baensch's aquarium atlas that: The trailing edge of the males anal fin features a convex curve and the central rays form a tube. The trailing edge of a females anal fin is straight. Sounds like a awesome ABF.
