Reca is an agroecological project in a region of the Amazon forest that includes the Brazilian states of Acre, Rondonia and Amazonas, and the neighboring country of Bolivia. It is called RECA, a Portuguese acronym for the so-called agroforestry consortium of settlers. It was developed to help Amazon migrants who came from other parts of Brazil. Some of the main goals are reforesting and using degraded agricultural land in a rational way, overcoming the lack of agricultural markets for small-scale production, and bridging cultural differences between colonists and traditional Amazonian rubber tappers.
