@doglass3 My sister shows samoyeds. They get really excited about it. They get this weird "show" persona. They get all snobby and show off. It's really weird. They love it. It's actually kid of facinating they way their persona changes when they get into the ring. You should go to a dog show sometime and check it out. Although that would work better if you knew a showdog personally. Something tells me you don't. : /
@doglass3 No worse then horse shows, the dog gets to be out, in public, enjoying new smells, sights, things to do and see. Yes that is so much better then running around the same back yard every day, or the same park. Sorry.
@jannymira 1.seriously!? Afghan hounds are from Afghanistan! that's why they're called AFGHAN hounds! They were bred to hunt gazelles in what used to be the beautiful mountains of Afghanistan. You can't see them now because they got blown up. All that's left is gravel and dirt.
2.there is no such thing as a typical afghan! they're all special! Between their awkwardness in the puppy stage to their striking features and their leaps like that of a gazelle.
We have an Afghan, a cocker spaniel and two cats. The Afghan loves them all! Unfortunately the cats don't like her and the cocker is ok with her being there but stays in charge ;-) I think they can be very friendly with other dogs and children.
I tried to let my Afghan run next to my bike so she could run a bit more. Wait before doing this when they are fully grown!! (12 monts is the minimum age for very short runs next to a bike. Start with only 5 minutes)
I owned two afghan hounds in the 80's and 90's. They are beautiful and wonderful dogs, but keeping them in groomed condition is a full-day job, and in addition they need LOTS of exericise.
So unless you have a lot of free time, and areinterested in fur grooming, do not buy one.
Working full time and living in an apartment house, I could never have one now.
nice dog with a flowing coat!

@packer812 How many hours a day should a afghan hound run? I have a seven months old german shepherd, but are afghans friendly with other dogs?
