Angry Anchor

Jessica Savitch goes on a tirade. Don't know if she's totally in the wrong though, after all the anchor is the one that ends up looking silly, even if its everyone behind the scenes that screwed up.

The amazing thing was that she hit that promo in about 39 seconds, literally dead on with no timer. Jessica Savitch had the potential to be one of the greats. It's just too bad she fought so many demons in her short life.

She was truly one of the best when she was on her game. I remember coaching a young lady who wanted vocal training to be a news anchor. I told her, "Watch Jessica Savitch!" Oddly enough, considering this video, since the young lady had a very soft and demure voice, I also told her, "Use your angry voice. That will give you projection and intensity." I had no idea Jessica Savitch might have really been angry so often! She obviously had good reason.

I can totally understand her anger...after all, it would be HER looking foolish to the TV viewers out there, not the guys she was yelling at. Ms. Savitch had a hard time with the "good ole boy network" and it was still a tough time for women back then, especially in traditionally male-dominated professions. She was very good at what she did....she helped pave the way for many women in broadcasting.

She seems justified in her anger. She seemed to be very controlled and professional - nothing at all like the mess she was purported to be.

She was right- under time pressure people can't be futzing around- she's the one on the air and looking stupid when things go wrong.
