I liked Clinton's government, at least as far as the economy goes, and the lack of wars and terrorist attacks by foreigners in US soil.

You seem to have a fundamental misunderstanding of Conservative and Liberal. Conservatives want bigger government as far as domestic and foreign policy. That's what Bush has established. However, they're also very firm believers in Adam Smith's lassaiz-fair policy in the economic market. That means less regulation.
Liberals want less government in domestic and foreign affairs. However, they like regulation in the financial districts.
