GREAT tutorial!Thanks!
Motion is more intuitive and easy than After Effects. Although, AF has more effects.
Just one detail; you can use Masks with Feather for each layer to match better the shape of the terrain at different scales.

A great help, very straightforward and clear. Excellent tutorial thanks!
(And a side note, in comparing this to the prominent AE tutorial on this same subject, I appreciate your not taking the first minute to go into an elaborate joke about tying a video camera to a weather balloon and giving me something painful to try to scrub through.)

By the power of Greyskull, this was a good video!

Thanks...I'll give it a try. I'm still learning Motion but I'm a whiz at FCP.
Okay...just one problem tho--I'm done w/ all the layer editing so I'm looking at Earth from space. Now how do I select that first image to put an anchor point now that I'm all the way zoomed out in space?

start watching the video from 4:25. I assume your question is you are so far from earth in your video, you cannot see exactly where to put your anchor point? IF so, just put it where you think it should go, then move the play head and as it zooms in, maybe you can adjust the anchor point?? Not sure if that helps you, but good luck.

I'm not an editor from Barcelona but I like your style and I like that you are humble. There are so many maverick know it all guys out there ...
I used to do this in a 3D app every time I needed the effect but now I'm convinced I could cut 3d render times by hours if I were to use your technique with a match frame at the end of my 3d animation.
Now I just need to go buy some 15km or less satellite images ..
Thanks!

Use Google Maps--satellite images. "print screen" or save the map image, then zoom closer, and repeat. If using a Mac, "command+shift+4" and drag your mouse to highlight the screen area you want to "picture." It then saves the image to your desktop....
