Here are scenes in the first few hours in Papua on Sunday, 20 March 2005.
SCENE 1 is while still in the plane, being treated with HORMAT, or RESPECT... that is, The Honored Passengers.... Yes!
SCENE 2: Waiting for our luggage by the never-ending conveyer belt. Notice the necessary adjustment at the end of this scene. (smile)
SCENE 3 takes place just across the lane from Hotel Ratna Manunggal where we were planning to stay later in the week. We met this extended family which included: Emius the boy with the huge afro, Endinus the teenage boy, Ibu Pendeta Els (Mrs. Reverend Els) and Estina and Nus Wenda (wife and husband I assume).
SCENE 4: Next we needed to MANDI or shower before heading to the expat church where I hoped to run into some childhood and SIL (summer institute of linguistics) friends. Since we didnt have a room, the clerk was trying to arrange for us to use the employee restroom in the back. But they were nervous that someone might walk in on Lori (am I remembering this correctly Lori?), so they suggested we use the WARUNG (phone/fax store) Telkom, Ratna Manunggal - adjacent to the hotel, where the toilet/wash room could be locked. Thus the LOKASI (location) of this scene.
Hope you enjoy it as much as I am, remembering it!
