United Record A1047 recorded 6/15/1911, recorded by Columbia on their same matrix number. This is most likely the Columbia Quartet, later known as the Peerless Quartet.

From around 1906 through 1910, the Columbia Quartet was stable and consisted of Albert Campbell (first tenor--a higher tenor voice than the second tenor's), Henry Burr (second tenor), bass Frank C. Stanley, and baritone Steve Porter.

  • this may sound odd comeing from a 15 year old but i enjoyed this song and was wondering if this would be on a record by any chance? because a family friend plays this at ther house alott when ther grandfather is there

  • @alyssa18091 It may have been recorded on an LP later by another group. This is off the original 78. Try Amazon to see if it is available.

  • Great old song. My dad would sing this song at the old kitchen table in the 30's and 40's. Another one he loved to sing was "Waiting for a Train" (all around the water tank.....) Jimmie Rogers song. Thanks for posting and stirring the cobwebs of my mind. I'm 75 in October 2009 and hold dear many of the songs of a time that was tranquil and innocent, the air was clean and people actually sat on their porches.

  • I couldn't agree with you more. Glad I could help you with those cobwebs.

  • I was alive when this song came out. This was a great song and one of my favorites. I have the record because it was passed down to me from my mother. I was born in 1900.

  • Why does your profile say you are 68? Also you would be 109 and don't know anyone your age that uses a computer. Glad to see you active with the new technology.
