This 1929 Robert-Morton theatre organ is playing in the Landmark Loew's Jersey Theatre, Jersey City, NJ. It is a 4 manual, 23 rank "Wonder Morton". Five were built for large movie palaces in and around NYC. The current organ, restored and installed by the non-profit Garden State Theatre Organ Society between 1997 - 2007, was originally in the Loew's Paradise Theatre (Bronx).
Ralph Ringstad, Jr. is one of the house organists. Ralph is playing the organ for this video. The awesome and powerful organ can be heard, seen, and felt before most movies at Loew's. There are special organ events a few times a year typically featuring it with bands, soloists, and accompaniment for silent films.

These grand buildings, known as the American Movie Palace, when viewed from the outside are truly larger than life, once inside one is immersed in the likes of an extraordinary palace. When seated, the senses are then immersed in sights and sounds like no other venue. The design of these buildings used the acoustics and architecture to enhance the organ's ability to excite not only one's perception of sound, but also that of sight.

Alas a wonderful medium of entertainment has returned to give this generation a taste of all the splender that made going to the movies a treat to all. The silent film was a special thing ! you had to provide a vivid imagination while viewing it , you were a part of ti when you laugh, cry, Hiss and boo the villan! Today's movie has computer images in a silent you have your imagination ! Go see a silent film at this theatre and you will see for yourself how great it really is !

Everytime I hear the sound of this organ, it reminds me of the Barton Pipe Organ they used to have at the Chicago Stadium during the hockey games.

Organ crew chief Bob Martin is probably most credited with getting this organ into the fine shape it's in. Not enough praise could be awarded to him and his crew for this monumental task. Thanks Bob, Ralph, and Paul for a great video.
