After a day of training on the up coming changes to the Eclipse for 2011 the topic changed as to what to expect from Mitsubishi Canada in the way of "New" products. Well no one seams to fast to commit to the idea that the I-car will be ready for the Canadian market any time soon. The three white Mitsubishi demo cars that have been sitting in the back of Mitsubishi Canada for over a year are still sitting there no new bumpers or left drive set up. So only leads me to the conclusion that there just is no motivation to get this product to market. Now the Colt has had past press announcements saying that it was coming to North America but it was made very clear not to expect it here if that means USA only I don't know. For some reason Mitsubishi Canada just does not want to bring in a compact car to market basically the thought is that there is no profit in that segment. With more and more of Mitsubishi technology and parts been sold to competitors like Hyundai, Kia and Chrysler it make me wonder if Mitsubishi real wants a strong dealer net work. The compacts are usually the starting point for most consumer to get familiar with the brand other company like Honda, Toyota even Hyundai built there business on compact cars. Over 2009, when the industry as a whole shrank by 10.7 percent, Mitsubishis sales rose 6.2 percent. And during the same period, Mitsubishis market share grew from 1.1 percent to 1.4 percent, a dramatic increase by industry standards. That record growth amid a declining market is a reflection of growing acceptance of Mitsubishi products. For example, the 2009 Outlander, a compact SUV, enjoyed a 31 percent sales growth last year. Coming to market shortly is the RVR for 2011 the question will be whether it will dilute that growth and if consumers really want a shorter version of the Out Lander with a smaller engine. On the sales floor the most question why the Outlander a smaller vehicle then the Endeavor is the only one in our line up to offer a 3rd row. Time & money may have been better spent on up dating the Endeavor to embrace the new look of Mitsubishi and adding more capacity to compete with it's competitors. With that said it may just be a rant from a local car sales man and if Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada President and CEO Koji Soga ever wants to talk shop I am here 9am-9pm retail hours fell free to drop in.
