I am glad I listened to this just now. My grandpa on my mom's side was a veteran in WW II and had died about 13 months ago. I loved all the stories he told when he was in the service in 1945. This song has made me think of him and dearly miss him.

It all makes sense. If the blue birds are the RAF, it is a song of prayer that they return because most bombing runs during WWII were at night and would return by dawn. (tomorrow). My opinion only.

The bluebirds are the bluebirds of happiness because WWII has ended. She is looking forward to the end of hostilities. Listen to the words and apply them to the history of the time.
