random aspects of 6 - dedicated to the memory of PATRICK McGOOHAN - PRISONER No. 6
========================================
The 17 episodes of THE PRISONER - made between 1967 and 68 quickly became a cult series.
McGoohan was born in New York in 1928.
He was soon taken to Ireland by his parents and finally to Sheffield.
He was a star youth boxer but his acting career started through his job as stage manager at Sheffield Repertory Theatre.
His first real fame came from his role as DANGER MAN. He turned down JAMES BOND and THE SAINT on religious grounds.
======INFO FROM COMMENTS ===============
As a young actor at Sheffield Rep - Patrick fell in love with a fellow actress. He wrote love letters every day until they married - on one day between matinee and evening performances. Their marriage was a lasting happy one
========================================
As a young actor he created a persona of an angry young man and impressed such as Orson Welles who starred him in MOBY DICK REHEARSED
========================================
He would only accept roles that put brains before the gun - and for this and other reasons rejected offers to play THE SAINT and JAMES BOND
========================================
MOBY DICK REHEARSED -a play written and directed by Orson Welles

What a theatrical experience the 1955 London production must have been!
Gordon Jackson - Christopher Lee - Patrick McGoohan - Orson Welles - Kenneth Williams - Joan Plowright
========================================
THE PRISONER was created because Patrick wanted to make an intelligent series on TV to explore his intense feelings regarding personal freedom within society and its need for the individual to conform.
========================================
After a visit to Portmeirion he wondered what would happen to such as his character John Drake was imprisoned in such a place. THE PRISONER was conceived!

  • i dont know how you found out i was a big fan of the prisoner but im greatful to you for letting me no that he has passed away ....... at least he wont have to suffer the remake series im sure will not be as good

  • good point - Remakes seldom if ever excel

  • Hi Folk - if anyone knows a source to the film CATCH MY SOUL (also known under another title containing SATAN ) - please post a comment - thank you - randy

  • Catch My Soul was the only full length feature film directed by Patrick -1973 I think -- it got very poor reviews - it was claimed to have been hampered by Patricks languorous direction - it is claimed that he kept Jack Goods rock opera version of Shakespears ORTHELLO at school-grade standards. But I think that possibly it was a script more suited to stage than screen

  • In regard to Qualqui's comments, the quality of James Bond storytelling with the series here is notable. If James Bond could be more like Pat McGoohan & his stories, there would be more women and girls interested in the whole enterprise. James Bond movies are too sexist. Star Trek had some good women role models though. More hot babes in the sciences, I say -- ERICS's X, from the ERA/DOE (Education)

  • well done randy, I love moon river but maybe 6 by 6 by earl van dyke would have been more apt.

  • I totally agree with mustangs7, 6 stars! And now in regards to the series 'The Prisioner' , don't remember hearin' or watchin' that tv series, has intrigued me even more, with mustangs7 comment, you wouldn't happen to know where i can buy this series, on dvd or vhs? Take care Randy and keep up with them cool vids!

  • Excellent video

  • Six stars!

    There's also six points on that coffin.

    Man, I think I'm gonna' buy the whole series now. I just loved watching it when I got home from work. It's great escapism.

    Well, I still have his other show to watch.

    Miss ya' Pat

  • You appear to have six on the brain ;)

    The Prisoner was a great series - nice tribute.

  • Patrick McGoohan breathed life into every character he played. Check out his acting in Ice Station Zebra--he made the rest of the actors look like Zombies. My favorite was the Scarecrow--he scared the poop out of me as a kid in that role. His John Drake made the james Bonds look like chimps. RIP Patrick, and thanks for the memories.

  • Great tribute he'll always be # 6 ,but # 1 to all fans of the prisoner we'll miss u # 6 R.I .P Thank ! for mak'n 1 of the coolest show ever . Mike

  • Gods speed! I hope he is acting in his next life. He brought such joy into our lives.
