You can still milk quite a bit of speed out of the orange turbo at the end b4 the line. The crash was likely accidental. I've tried both methods, and the crash is slower.

The crash appears deliberate, done so that the lap can be finished quicker due to the sharper line. He doesn't do it on the previous laps because he wants the benefit of the orange turbo, something that he can't take full advantage of at the end of lap 3.
