The classic Earnhardt/Waltrip battle at Richmond. In the second race of the year Dale Earnhardt and Darrell Waltrip duke it out in the closing laps. With two to go, Waltrip is able to get under Earnhardt. suddenly Earnhardt #3 cuts down and turns Waltrips #11 HARD into the wall. With other getting involved in the wreck, Kyle Petty is able to get by and collect his first career victory.

  • i can't believe i've found this finally, been asking my wife for this video for x-mas forever. thanks freshgeek89.

  • Just here to help

  • i don't understand why this says Earnhardt cut a tire down. Everyone knows he did it on purpose.

  • I never said he cut a tire, I meant that the car cut a hard left in to Darrell's car

  • a freshgeek you should name this video like dale vs darrel becuase this video was very hard to fing in the search box make it simpler maybe thats why it has low views cuz people cant find it.

  • If you type earnhardt waltrip, its the first one to show up.

  • lmaooo, i guess you towed your own damn car back to the garage in those days, today the CREWS are there in 10 seconds

  • hahahahaha "when the penalties were imposed they said they were protecting the integrity of the sport when they were lifted...no comment" Wow

  • I still don't see how Earnhardt wrecked too.

  • If you ever seen the ESPN Films movie "3" (not the crappy CMT version) there's a scene from that movie where they show the confrontation between DW and Dale, Sr from after this incident where DW confronted Dale, Sr right after he did that in-car interview when he got out of his car (I think; been awhile since I seen this movie) and DW got right in his face and talked some shit and Dale, Sr just stood there and didn't say a single word.

LOL. What an asshole he was, the 'Imitator' ;-)

  • NVM the last comment, it is TBS Sports. I know that B/C of Dave Despain and Chris Ecomacki, who both worked with TBS Sports's MotorWeek Illustrated NASCAR & IMSA coverage in the mid '80s. :-)

  • Is this TBS or CBS Sports that's doing this race? B/C I recognize Ken Squier's and Ned Jarrett's voice and I want to say that it's CBS, but CBS didn't usually do short-track races like this, so can anyone confirm this?

    Thanks!

  • @erasetoimprove Eanrhardt and Waltrip were not good friends at that time so earnhardt did it so waltrip won't finish.

  • Look at that! At :36 seconds into the clip, the TV director switches from a battle on the track to an irrelevant shot of an anonymous fan in the stands. WTF! That must be Artie Kempner of NASCAR on FOX fame. That is his trademark television direction, switching from what we tuned in to watch to something totally irrelevant. NASCAR has one foot in the grave and it's television partners are throwing dirt in the hole.
