I agree with this video entirely! I mean, i barely have any female friends because my main interest is gaming, ad they just don't even bother with it. on the other hand, i can't get guys to take me seriously, untill i kick their ass at gears. your insight was helpful, so i think i should go con more GIRLS into playing halo, guitar hero, or gears with me.

If you're a 'learn by doing' type, you could get Game Maker (google it) and try making games yourself; you could do the same thing with other things like Director 11 or anything else. Otherwise you could search around for stuff like Daniel's work; articles and other written things about game design.
Another way is to play a game, and analyse it; if it's fun, think about WHY it's fun; and if it's bad, think about why.
