Addictive - Hotshot (ZX Spectrum)

When I was young, I used to really like this game. A demo of the first level was given away on the cover of Sinclair User magazine and I played it over and over! I was also very keen on the Colin Swinbourne game "Brat Attack" which appeared on the flip side of the tape.

Yep, covertapes were great... a decent one could provide more enjoyment than a full-price game! Of course, many of them included formerly full priced games...

Anyway, this is a variant of Breakout / Arkanoid in which you can control the ball using a sucker gun. The physics are not very realistic, but that's probably beneficial to the playability (as with MarioKarts). The graphics are small but neat, with each character sprite seeming full of personality. I had a 48K as a child so this is the first time I've heard the menu screen tune.

It's definitely worth a try. The idea is a nice variation on Breakout, I think.

However, it wasn't as enjoyable as I remembered. The dodgy physics were more annoying to me as an adult.

Loved this, I hated being Wobbly! I even had to buy it for my Amiga 500 because it was such a great game. I now have it on a Nintendo DS spectrum emulator

Am I the only person that didn't realise sound on the 128K was in stereo?

One of the first games I played on the speccy, I have completed this game now, I have it on the DS as an emulator, so I could save states, great game
