The received wisdom pigeonholes this album as an homage to Orwell's '1984' --not surprising given the explicit references to that novel. But I've always felt Diamond Dogs bears Burroughs' imprimatur more than anything, especially in the Sweet Thing sequence. I fancy the falsetto 'if you want it boys, get it here then.' Bowie's attempt at a Burroughs impersonation. Bowiologists can correct me, but I think the two met in late '73, in fact during the DD recording sessions.

The extended quote in the vid is an emblemmatic passage from Burrough's 'The Lost Boys: A Book of the Dead'.

  • Can I know who's playing the guitar?

  • @House38500 That would be backinnyc2010. Now if you manage to drag the Great Backster away from high-fidelity covers, I shall be green with envy.

  • great attempt of a seriously incredible song

  • Is this a cover? It sounds just like Bowie. If it isn't Bowie it is the blimmin double. Great.
