Turina (1882-1949) wrote quite a few piano pieces that are in effect musical postcards of Spain, and that certainly applies to the two sets of 'Mujeres españolas' (Women of Spain) and the later 'Mujeres de Sevilla'. This piece comes from the second set of 'Mujeres españolas', which was published in 1933, 16 years after the first set.

  • Hi Mr. Sear,

    Your beautiful playing is contagious!

I would love to hear you playing Joaquin Turina's Opus 55 number 5 entitled Sacro Monte.

Many pianists just bang hard or harshly when performing this piece.

Your playing will sound different--it is different.

It is like making love to the piano with passion and tenderness divinely intertwined.

    Thanks,

    HagenSara10

  • @HagenSara10 That's a lovely comment. I can play Sacro-Monte and think that it was on a UK exam syllabus a few years ago. Maybe I'll have a look at it!

  • Restful, thoughtful, peaceful.

  • @23062001805616 Thank you!

  • Thank you for your interesting comment. I will certainly try to have a look at your students! I too like Hahn's music. Alas he is still in copyright here in the EU which means his scores are expensive!

  • You have an amazing collection of many little gems! So many composers I've not heard of, too. Right now I am on a Reynaldo Hahn kick, so thanks for playing those two selections. I have Earl Wild's recording and now I find myself addicted to Hahn's music. Everything is pretty much unavailable here (USA/California), so I'm letting my students download it off Petrucci Library for free. If you have time, please feel free to visit/watch my students - would appreciate feedback. Thanks for posting!

  • Oh yes! The Cuban pianist/composer Ernesto wrote many famous pieces including Malageña

  • Thank you very much. Do you think he would have liked Turina's music?
