@opmike343 i was reffering to the crash in 88 that ended dafs participation in dakar.

Of course should all safety equiptment available always be used .

You don't have much racing experience, do you? There's are LOTS of crashes that could happen that aren't instantly fatal that can result in quite a bit of head trauma. For example, your vehicle could tip over and your head could smack into a support member on the interior. Wise racers want something between their heads and the environment whenever possible to help mitigate whatever damage they can.
