The Jewish "look" 1: Dura-Europos synagogue

The Dura-Europos synagogue is unique among the many ancient synagogues that have emerged from archaeological digs in that it was preserved virtually intact. It is one of the oldest synagogues in the world. Discovered in 1932 at Dura-Europos, in modern Syria it was dated to 244 CE. It contains a forecourt and house of assembly with frescoed walls depicting stories and events from the TaNaKh (Hebrew Bible).
In this video you can see the Purim triumph, the altar of Aaron, Shmuel anoints David, Moshe reads the Torah, the sacrifice made by Eliyahu and baby Moshe in the Nile river fetched by the Pharaoh's daughter.

The large scale pictorial art in the synagogue came as a great surprise to scholars, due to the historical prohibition of visual images in Judaism.

In ancient Israel black was NOT beautiful.

In the Hebrew text it is clear that his skin TURNED black.

He was not black before, he was not born black.

Again, black as a sign of sickness, sin and evil.
