ISRAEL 2021 Conference - The Highlights

(Jan. 13, 2010) The Israel 2021 Conference, which was held on Wednesday and Thursday January 12-13th, brought together over 3200 of Israel's leaders from across all sectors to discuss and outline a new socioeconomic vision for the country. The conference itself represented the culmination of an ongoing process to revolutionize Israel's public sphere so as to build the foundations for a socioeconomic leapfrog -- high, sustained, inclusive growth for more than eight years. International experience reveals that the common denominator between all the countries that leapt is a public sphere that uniquely and pragmatically
Specifically, the Israel 2021 Conference advanced three basic conditions necessary for any leapfrog. The first: mobilize Israel's "serving elite" -- those individuals actively committed to improving its socioeconomic future -- and providing them with the platform, knowledge, and inspiration to maximize their efforts. The second: refocus public discourse on long-term socioeconomic issues through media platforms and elsewhere. The third: improve cross-sector dialogue to leverage the unique contribution of each group -- whether legislators, members of the government, business people, or philanthropists -- in order to promote relevant legislation and policy to tackle those issues most important for leapfrogging.
The conference marked a significant milestone in Israel's socioeconomic development. The Prime Minister repeated his recently declared goal of turning Israel into one of the fifteen leading nations in the world, but this time the two civil servants responsible for executing this goal also outlined their future plan. Meanwhile, one of Israel's top newspapers committed itself formally to an editorial shift and focus on long-term issues. International visitors praised the conference as unique, innovative, and exemplary.
