A sound off between two great synths. The Mini is my 1974 D model. In this version of the video, I have presented the waveforms in graphical format (well most of them).

  • Thanks for the comparison. I believe the Moog square wave was not quite symmetrical, which it of course must be in order to hear the correct hollowness of sound. I think either there is something wrong with the instrument or the knob was not set perfectly. By the way, MPrint666, why so uptight?

  • Yeah, the tri was a bit weird too!

  • Another dumb comparison. They aren't comparable synths at all. One is digital one is analog. One is polyphonic and one is monophonic. One has legendary sound that is highly sought after and one is a bargain synth that sounds ok. Microkorg is so over-rated.

  • I think I know what you mean!

  • @MPrint666 Microkorg may be over-rated... but you know why? Moogs are thousands of dollars depending on which one you get. You know how much a Microkorg is? 400 dollars. So the question you have to ask yourself is this: would you rather have "legendary" sounds for super expensive? Or would you rather have pretty similar sounds for WAY cheap? They're both grand instruments, some people just can't afford a Moog. That's that.

  • Is the melody at 1:10 something you played randomly,

or did you have Dizzy Treasure Island in your head at time? ;)

  • obviously the moog is going to come out better. if anything this video is a useful way to see the differences between analog and digital synthesis. everyone knows analog is fatter and nicer but it's cool to hear the two directly side-by-side along with a visual representation of differences. thanks for the vid!

  • good comparison but could you have used a better melody, its very annoying

  • @MPrint666 But for the price I think that the microkorg is prett good.

  • Sorry meant filters were I said patches

  • I'm starting to fig this all out, but I do have a stable idea of wave forms and all that. I prefer that digital feel the korg has (because it's a digital posing as an analog, and does a good job at it too). I.e the deepness of the res or any other patch that analogs don't have. It's very noticeable in the moog. In the sweeps the moog is-i guess- less dynamic? The korg has a much-lower?- range than the moog. To hardcore analog fans that feel the moog has might be more correct, but I like the ko

  • "Single oscillator square waveforms Minimoog" is clearly not single oscillator, you can hear the sound in two octaves...

  • @glfglfglf moog's often went out of sync, with pitch and other parameters as it's analogue,so that might explain it.

  • moog wins this battle, try it against a korg radius if you have one? cool video.
