@KStealed Yeah but it's better if you live to tell your grandkids about it. The guy just pushed his luck too far. Nothing admirable about being eaten by a bear in my book.

@harassed09 It wasn't that he wasn't smart, he just knew nothing about wildlife. Bears don't want to be bothered with us, any more than the feral cats in my neighborhood want me following them around. The bears where treadwell camped were notorious for being calm and non aggressive towards people, it had nothing to do with them "loving" or bonding with him...but in the end, I guess even the most placid bear runs out of patience.

@KStealed yeah, and prisons are full of people who did what they wanted to do too.
The only thing he was good at was fooling a whole lot of people into funding the 3 month summer camping vacations he took every year. he was a liar, made up all kinds of things about his past, & raised money for his trips by telling people that the bears were in danger of poaching - yet in spite of always having a camera, he never once came up with any evidence of that claim. He was a self-promoting fake.
