Actually the backing track is there because in outside performances, elements such as wind or rain can deflect the array of sound and throw off timing and other sound engineering contingencies. The backing track acts as a monitor to keep everyone in time. Live concert sound is totally different from listening to the music in your room or in a club. The difference between Shakira and other "POP" singers, is if the power went out, Shakira could still perform the song acoustically.

Actually, she isn't lip syncing.They have live musicians but they put a background track in case of making a mistake.so if they make a mistake we will not hear it.And if she puts the mic away for a few seconds she just sings louder and the person who is responsible for the sound he concentrates the sound on the mic.So she ain't lip syncing.She really has a strong voice and has a lot of talent.I respect her for that.

@justmesuus Yeah, I think so. You see her pull her microphone away at a few point and the volume doesn't change. Plus the vocal track sounds IDENTICAL to the studio version.

I don't know why she is lip syncing though. I've see other live videos and she is not bad live!
