This argument is far from settled. Harry Potter is like many films a joint-production between different countries. Trying to label HP as an American film due to partial rights is nothing but pure arrogance. It was very important for JK Rowling that her films be British, and claiming they're not because they got their funding in Hollywood is ridiculous.

@mieroth Warner Brothers does much more than fund the Harry Potter movies. They bought the rights from JK Rowling & then HIRED the British talent that works on the films. If Rowling wanted to keep the films 100% British, she should've sold the rights to a British distributor/production company like Hammer Film. On that note, The Woman In Black IS a British film. But w/ HP, Warners makes all the decisions, from who to hire to how to market the film to splitting the last film into 2 parts.
