There was no United States until after the northern Colonies also known as the Union faught against the Southern Colonies. After winning the war the Union decided on the United States of America. And another thing, if you think the rebel flag is racist then I know you need a history lesson.

he realized that b givin in to abolitionist and there political pull and power he illegaly passed a law wich in effect took rights from american citizens without representation...not to mention the damage union troops inflicted on southern people..i had family on both sides and i fly the confederate to honor my ancestors who reconized a gov stepping out of its bounds an inforcing (violently in some cases ) an illegal law on its citezens and had the courage to step up and fight for there rights..

ok i normally dont respond to these but there is to much ignorance flyin around on both sides so here is your history lesson...feel free to look it up..the confederate flag is not a symbol of an army fighting for slavery in fact most confederate soldiers were to poor to nor did they believe in slavery in fact slavery was puttin most of them in poverty because of the fact small farmers couldnt complete with the plantation owner

BUT, if you want to be really technical, being a redneck means you have a "RED NECK", IE your a farmer sitting on an open seat getting burnt on the neck (IE where it originated from). Unless your a farmer, IMO your not a "true" redneck. When's the last time you've planted/harvested, when's the last time you have cultivated, spread manure, or worked cattle.

@misfit514 you do realize the the "union" is actually a term to describe all states unity in the USA. If say, for example, today, California, or Texas dropped out of the USA, people would say that they were dropping out of the "Union". So, mr. smartypants/historian, please do your homework before you try and be mr.smartass. USA didn't originate after the civil war. And during, before, and after the civil war, people still, do, and did refer to the states as being a "Union".
