"Economic Hit Man" John Perkins Recounts US Efforts to Block Nationalization of Panama Canal
Panamanian President Martin Torrijos was in Washington earlier this week to discuss a pending free trade agreement with the United States, where he drew praise from President Bush on winning national approval for the $5.2 billion expansion plan for the Panama Canal. But three decades ago the moves to nationalize the Panama Canal by President Torrijos's father, General Omar Torrijos, met with enormous resistance in this country. [includes rush transcript]

  • America loves military dictatorships, so long as they take orders from the Whitehouse. As soon as they step out of line, it's smart bomb time...

  • I've read this guy's book "Confessions of an Economic Hitman"--it's pretty good.

  • If they make a movie based on this guys life "Henry Winkler" has to be at the top of the list of actors to play him

  • Way to go John Perkins! Thank the creator there is a human being who woke up and shared truthful knowledge as to what is really happening out there!! Is it no wonder the u.s.a is soooo untrusted and hated around the globe!! It's sad when the usa's government /bankers put this great country in such a total ignorant state of mass mindlessness!!! Cmon people what you gonna do!!

  • True story, it is good.

  • I would have liked to see Russo make a movie with John Perkins before he died. They would have been a good fit.

  • now we all know why Saddam had all these funny duplicates runnin around...

  • Sir,

Manuel Noriega was never president of Panama and was not elected by anybody to govern. For you to suggest otherwise is a gross misrepresentation of history. I find it curious that an organization called "I want Democracy Now" would champion military dictatorhips anywhere in the world.
