Sissel has performed this song throughout her career. She has stated on several occasions that it is her personal favorite. sisselfan has posted a performance of this song with english lyric subtitles here: watch?v=27JqZ8eEZlw . The lyrics are very beautiful and very powerful. It is easy to see understand why this is her favorite from the hundreds of beautiful songs she has sung.

I was weeping, the lyrics and the song are the beautiful parts but it needs a truly godlike voice to bring out the true spirit of Christmas, the spirit of Christ. I don't think there is a better version than this in the past or in the future.

@Figaropipeorgan Your comment is most apt! She is often criticized by armchair opera "experts" for not displaying enough emotion when singing classical songs. These people don't know how to listen or watch. Between, as you say, her tonality and the expressiveness of her face, she communicates the emotion of her songs more clearly than any "real" opera singer I have ever heard.

Personl disclaimer (where I'm coming from): Sissel is -- by far -- the best singer I've ever heard. There are no words remotely adequate to describe the beauty of her voice or her loveliness as a singer and a person.
