WFUMB 2009 Sydney World Ultrasound Congress Highlights

These are some of the highlights from the recent WFUMB2009 Sydney World Ultrasound Congress, This congress was hosted and organised by the Australasian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine (ASUM). The Major sponsors were Toshiba, GE Healthcare, Philips and Medison, and supported by the Australian Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing.
More than 2400 people participated from about 70 countries at this world class "olympics" of ultrasound event,
The congress ran for 5 days from 30 August to 3 September 2009 at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre in Darling Harbour and is the biggest ultrasound congress in the world in 2009.
The last time such a prestigious event came to Sydney Australia was in 1985. The Organising Committee produced the best congress scientific program which showcased plenary lectures, concurrent sessions, electronic posters, live scanning workshops, exhibitions and symposiums at their best .
There was something for everyone in all aspects of medical ultrasound. The social program was also superb and they include Australian performances by Decadance, Australian Girls Choir, String Diva, Almondo Hurley and the Funkamatics Band.
Awards,scholarships and prizes were presented at the Gala Dinner event during the congress,
It was the most ambitious and biggest project that ASUM as an organization has taken on, and survived the global financial crisis and swineflu challenges, with an outstanding success, achieving all its education, networking and business objectives.
The Organising Committee and convenors consisted of Prof Ron Benzie (ASUM President), Dr Caroline Hong(ASUM CEO) Prof Rob Gibson (Congress Convenor), Dr Matthew Andrews (Immediate Past President) and Mr Keith Henderson (ASUM Educ Manager), and many others.
Prof Giovanni Cerri was the President of WFUMB , succeeded by Prof Michel Claudon.
