@Gnottason I see a little lack of logic here, it would suggest that One Direction or Justin Bieber isn't shit because they have many fans :P
For me there is better and worse music, but it's totally independent from the genre. There is awesome Punk, awesome Jazz, awesome Metal, awesome Classical Music, awesome Electronic music and even awesome Pop (Michael Jackson). But all of these genres contain shit music as well.

Lets cut to the chase, you prefer Metal and thats fine, that doesnt mean it is better than Punk, there is no such thing as better or worse music just personal preference. I prefer Punk but also like Metal but wouldnt say Punk is better, that would just be an opinionated snobbish attitude.
I cant stand Jazz myself but I cant say its shit because if it was shit it wouldnt have so many fans, but it does.
