I for one think that wat Marsalis is doing is fukn awsome.... Its important to keep the origin of jazz alive, especially to the new generations on the way. Cuz u cant run without learning how to walk first.

Wynton has fun to declare jazz music as the simplest form of folk music, as the summary of a entire siecle's process, he's devoted, get this. He loves teaching about jazz history too. He surely knows about modern music. I heard him playing in a Don Cherry maneer... that's what the music expected from him in that moment - and he can handle it. Why don't people simply accept him as an ambassador of good taste and responsability for the entire music treasure. He tries to help us by teaching music!

@6stringsdown ive read and heard this opinion of wynton often. but the only musician ive heard it from is Keith Jarrett.Art Farmer, Miles Davis, Ornette Coleman, Joe HEnderson, Dizzy, Betty Carter,Art Blakey et al have spoken glowingly of him. i think a lot of the angst towards him is because of the unprecedented money and oppurtunity he got at an early age and being billed as savior of jazz. and stanley crouch's liner notes claiming hes the most important person in the world
