Essentially a completely different show, yes. An "atrocity", no. The new series took the basic premise of the old one and made a show far better than it ever was. And I say that as someone who enjoyed watching reruns of the original as a kid.

The best line from this episode is when Adar says "what was that?" and Adama says "that was my son Mr. President".

@chris03051979 You can watch the whole of Saga of a Star World on DVD. Better yet, buy the DVD and then find the fanedit version to go along with it. The Destruction of the Colonies is far more devistating in the fanedit. (OTOH, even the original destruction of the colonies is vastly superior to the re-imaged version.)

I think the original series is pretty good (thats from clips and pictures of the series) but the Battlestar has engines that look like they'll snap right off.

@TheLastBrainLeft Star Gate had the SAME premise as Battlestar Galactica, to a point. Some of the humans came from the stars, I.E.goa'uld and the ancients, who came down and breed with early humans.

REALLY should use the classic music for the classic show. The more modern suites are more appropriate for today's revamp version and audience. Both music styles are fantastic..just not to be mixed. Thats my view anyway
