You do kinda understand whales really don't need to have their population or numbers kept in check? That they already have enough natural predation and fatalities that man was the deciding factor of their brink of extinction?
There's a difference to being forced to maintain a populations of animals in a land like say Africa where elephants and humans compete for the same resources.
Whales don't take up anything for the most part. Not the baleen feeders :/
