In 1969, four Alabama studio musicians left the storied Fame Recording Studios to create the Muscle Shoals Sound Studio.
Their first client was Cher, who even named her album "3614 Jackson Highway" -- the address of the studio.
In this clip, drummer Roger Hawkins and bassist David Hood describe the early days of a studio that would go on to become a 1970s icon.
David Hood is the father of Patterson Hood, from the Drive by Truckers. Buford used to tell me the stories when crashing at my house when they were in town.

Patterson and David Hood have provided tremendous inspiration and support in the creation of new non-profit, Tennessee Riverkeeper. Our mission is to protect the Tennessee River and its tributaries. Muscle Shoals and Florence, Alabama are on the River.
