In 1969, four Alabama studio musicians left the storied Fame Recording Studios to create the Muscle Shoals Sound Studio.

Their first client was Cher, who even named her album "3614 Jackson Highway" -- the address of the studio.

In this clip, drummer Roger Hawkins and bassist David Hood describe the early days of a studio that would go on to become a 1970s icon.

  • David Hood is the father of Patterson Hood, from the Drive by Truckers. Buford used to tell me the stories when crashing at my house when they were in town.

  • Patterson and David Hood have provided tremendous inspiration and support in the creation of new non-profit, Tennessee Riverkeeper. Our mission is to protect the Tennessee River and its tributaries. Muscle Shoals and Florence, Alabama are on the River.
