This is a 15 minute video walking you through the steps needed to get up and running Ubuntu 11.10 Oneric Ocelot. The video shows how to get the OS downloaded, walks you through the install process... including setups for installing along side your current OS, and goes over some of the basics you'll need to know to get going once the install is complete.

  • Thanks so much for this! I've been trying to decide which Linux to use since there are so many to choose from, but this looks like one of the easiest & fully featured versions, plus previous windows users swear by Ubuntu. What's kept me from switching is having to know where drivers are & paths, crons and all that. I know DOS, Perl, CGI, html, etc., but somehow Linux has always scared me a bit, lol. Your video makes it look much easier now than ever before.

  • @gmj2012 Ubuntu does a great job at making Linux user-friendly

  • Very nice video, I'm going to install this os on my new computer to save $100.

  • @jakeb1997 Sweet... welcome to the world of Linux!

  • I am running Ubuntu 10.10 at the moment, When I last used Ubuntu 11.04 and 11.10 I was experiencing Display issues after the computer booted, I could still get to the grub menu, but I could only see the display when I went into "recovery mode" I believe. I have an Emachines E525 With a 16:9 HD Display Running Intel Celeron, 2GB RAM, If it is possibly driver issues, do you by any chance have some suggestions. Thank You for any support on the issue.

  • @Yenor3891 If you can get into even the 2D fallback mode, I would run the Additional Drivers tool, to find the proper drivers. Other than that, i would go over to ubuntuforums(dot)org and ask there, as there may be someone with your set up who has a better answer.

  • Great video, great explanation. Thankyou. Super helpful. I'm running Windows 7 right now but I'm going to format an extra drive I have and install Ubuntu on it, have a dual-boot setup on my machine, I've always wanted to try this OS. It looks gorgeous! I'm a Linux noob though, heh.

  • @robot1nk Sounds like your USB stick doesn't have persistence set up on it. What did you use to create the Live USB? On any Live USB I've set up I've never had a problem keeping anything like Synaptic installed.

  • Thanks for the helpful video!

I do have a question, I'm running Ubuntu 11.10 32-bit off a USB stick, and I have to reinstall synaptic manager each time. Is there a way to save all installed apps to the USB?

  • @msparis275 Ubuntu is currently an Operating System for computers, although they have stated they would like to get into phones and tablets in the future.
