@Tylershort86 Man there are a lot easier ways to burn the house down than using a grounded custom made light. What is so unsafe about it? And what kind of electrical credentials do you have buddy?

@TheEmarbe Nice shit talking asshole. This thing is CHEAP. That is the POINT idiot. Have you seen what a digital ballast goes for? This is meant to teach people what they can do for pennies on the dollar. I love HID lighting, but this is not a video about HID's.
WHAT THE FUCK HAVE YOU DONE JACK? Your channel has nothing interesting on it. No uploads means no creativity, just negativity. Plus I bet you're a pussy and couldn't build or produce anything that is useful.

@sharkeeeee well thats cool, but if you using em for grow, you can use half as many bulbs, and get more light, by mounting em sideways. check out my grow with just 5 bulbs bro. thanx for ur input. really everything about this guy light is not to safe.

@steveeb1269 I've had several CFL's mounted base side up for over 5 years and still running strong.

There are lots of bulbs out there that offer bulb down/base up as their specific design. Check em, don't cost more than other types.

Nice setup! I would however not advice anyone to wire like this without knowing what you're doing. Get a friend with experience to do it.
The dangers of doing this are burning down the house and the potential of electrocuting yourself.
You need to parallel wire the lamps and use a plug which can deliver as many ( more) amperes as the bulbs use. (Which must be calculated)
If this is not done correctly, the plug will take damage and possibly light on fire.
Great video, though!

that is not safe at all. mounting cfl,s base up can cause the bulbs to burn out much faster, and a very good chance they will catch on fire. most company warn not to mount em base up, horz. gives you more light and increases bulb life. but base down is recommended, for maxium life, and less chance of the ballast over heating.

a dude a cheapsuggetion instead of stainless steel sides on in you could go to wall mart n go to camping section and pick up emergeny fire blankets they're inexpensive like 2 to 3 bucks and its just like mylar and very light material very reflective they come in different sizes 5' by 5' mot common i've seen ohh, thats awesome setup very mcgruber like I have like the same setup except i only have 10 bulbs.

Add Tinfoil to the sides!
u get an E for effort but FYI cfl bulbs dont emmit light from the top of the bulb they emit light from the side so ur light is nice but useless take out the entire middle row of lights and get y adapters to angle the bulbs and use two bulbs in each socket and ur light will more than double

@Sparrow11757 Like I said before. It was an experiment. The parts excluding the cut to size wiring can be re-used. I wanted to see how bright that many CFL's were together on one circuit. It was way more simple to configure that many bulbs together in a tight space. I am all about efficiency and performance and don't like CFL's compared to real lights like HPS's anyways. Thanks for the insight.

congrats your using 414w and prolly spent around 80-90 bucks for them? you can get a switchable hps/mh for 100. I used to grow with 7-42w cfl's and i must say they work good but mh/hps works GREAT. anyway not hating just stating the obvious.

@yourhollisterdude I think the experience of tinkering with building and assembling different devices is very rewarding. It helps to better understand how things work. I have not used this light in an actual grow or as a shoplight.. It was an experiment and the cost was not even close to $80 or 90. Plus the receptacles and bulbs can be re-used.

@yourhollisterdude I love HID lighting. It is where real growing occurs. Just an experiment. Thanks for the comment.

@420THATOZ Thanks bro. It was more of an experiment than anything else.
