Go to the Mirror

Performed by the Avondale Theatre Company. July 16-18, 2009. The production was put together in three weeks of building and rehearsals at Avondale High School in Auburn Hills, Michigan. The cast and crew was made up of current high school students, alumni going all the way back to the class of 1991, younger kids in the school district, and three teachers.

I (the music director and guitarist) dedicate this performance to diehard fans like me who agree with Roger Daltrey about the Broadway version's orchestrations sounding too watered down and not enough like The Who.

  • I'm confused as to how the mirror was flown? Was the top rigged to one baton and the bottom to the next immediately downstage? The flipping movement seems unneccessary

  • @skiierboy01 Because the scene took place so far downstage, it was outside of the range of our normal fly system so we improvised a way to hang it from a lighting catwalk. It had to flip down that way or else it'd have been in the way of the proscenium during the rest of the show.

  • I actually thought the inclusion of the kids worked really great. It was eerie, in a really cool way.

  • @TWOrdway Thanks! That's what we were going for.

  • @sbamkmfdmdfmk Ah I gotcha. We rigged up something similar for our pinball bumpers in our current production of Tommy. Those prosceniums really are a pain in the arse - our director has us adjusting them every time we move in and out of the apartment.

  • @hicast1 No worries, chip's my personal friend and "Pete Brownshend" was the name I used for the show. :-)

  • @chip3000 oooooooh thats funny but wrong

  • WHY THERE IS A KID? WHY THERE IS A FUCKING KID THERE?

By this time Tommy was already an grownup.

The only anwser is that his memory as a child got stuck up his mind... but if that is true, how he is an adult, acts and talks like one, when he is free?

    I got no clue...

Besides that minor fail, this is a great version... (Except for the damm kids who take off any sign of emotion of the "Right behind you...etc..."Part... THIS SHOULD BE EPIC! Not silly)n

  • @msm1876 Yeah, the couple who played Tommy's parents were great to work with! They're actually a couple in real life and have a family together!

  • Great harmonization @ 2:22-2:31
